Bologna is one of the wealthiest city in Italy, seat of the oldest continually operating universities in the world, and the second largest in Italy. Bologna features a spectacular historical center, especially thanks to its porches that line every street creating a particularly warm atmosphere of protection. It is also considered the capital of the Italian Cusine, since this is where many of our famous dishes come from. These are the basis on which the city acquired its nicknames: "the learned one" (la dotta) and "the fat one" (la grassa) refers to its cuisine but also to its wealth.
.
The city's Fiera District (exhibition area) is the second largest in Italy and the fourth largest in Europe. Bologna and its metropolitan area have several important industries in the fields of foods, electronics and mechanics including Ducati motorcycles and Lamborghini sports cars. "The red one" (la rossa) it’s originally refers to the color of the roofs in the historic centre, but this third nickname is also connected to the political situation in the city, started after World War II a bastion of socialism and communism. It was one of the first European towns to experiment with the concept of free public transport. Another nickname for Bologna is the Basket City, referring to Bologna's obsession with basketball, which is somewhat unusual in football-dominated Italy.Bologna has about 400,000 inhabitants in the city proper and about 1 million in the metropolitan area, including over 100,000 students of the ancient and renowned University of Bologna. Founded in the XI century Bologna was founded by the Etruscans, developed at Roman time and after a long decline, Bologna was reborn in the fifth century under bishop Petronius, In the 11th century, Bologna began to grow again as a free commune, joining the Lombard League against Frederick Barbarossa in 1164. In 1088, the Studio was founded, now the oldest university in Europe, which could boast notable scholars of the Middle Ages like Irnerius, and, among its students, Dante, Boccaccio and Petrarca. Since the middle ages when the city was full of towers (perhaps 180), notable public edifices, churches, and abbeys the Bolognese people prided themselves for being an example of liberal thinking and civilization. Not only the oldest university in the world is here in Bologna, but in 1256, Bologna promulgated the Legge del Paradiso ("Paradise Law"), which abolished feudal serfdom and freed the slaves using public money. During the Renaissance, Bologna was the only Italian city that allowed women to excel in any profession. Women there had much more freedom than in other Italian cities; some even had the opportunity to earn a degree at the university. In more recent times Bologna took part or lead any major cultural progress movement which influenced the country.

Driving from Venice to Florence takes about 2,5 hr entirely driven on comfortable highways. Bologna is 2/3 of the way despite the considerable charme of the center it can be visted rapidly and it's a great opportunity for lunch, there many good restaurants of different categories and prices form the humble osteria absolutely traditional and family style to elegant restaurants.
Our chauffeur driven vehicles can access the centre of the city, therefore according to clients walking preference the DG or driver can park the car at the entrance of the city centre or cover most sights of the city by car, limiting the walking to the minimum or even to zero.
This is something that our personnel know how to handle. Drivers will stay with the car, while Driver Guides will normally escort clients walking through the town with them assisting them during the visit, orienting them and giving them the relevant information about what’s being visited, without giving in depth explanations such as what a specialized guide would give.
