Cinque Terre (The Five Lands) is a short piece of coastline at the beginning of the Italian Riviera where five mediaeval fisherman villages survived intact to the centuries isolated as if they were on an island as they could only be reached by sea. They feature a unique architecture and unbelievable landscapes around them. This is unquestionably one of the most beautiful spots in Italy and a top priority to visit.

As we approach Cinque Terre we will drive through La Spezia and start climbing the promontory that separate this large city from this this magical territory that Cinque Terre is.

The scenery from above Riomaggiore (1st town) is breathtaking. Once parked at the top of the village we will start winding down walking through its houses which cluster both sides of the steep valley.

The constructions seem so daring that one often wonders how can these mediaeval buildings have survived the centuries despite their extremely unstable location.

The walk down will end at the ancient marina, that is still intact as it was about 1000 years ago. We will head onto the famous "Via dell'Amore" (Walkway of Love) a romantic, easy and flat trail carved along the cliffs that offers spectacular views over the coastline, and connects Riomaggiore to Manarola (2nd town). At each step the scenery, the rock formations, the vegetation and colors change completely.

Manarola is possibly the most photogenic of the five town, it’s composed by an myriad of alleys which go all around it and walking along toward the point of the promontory will allow you to have the most breathtaking view of it.

The visit will continue using either a local train or ferry that in about 10 minutes will easily transport us to Vernazza (4th town) the most picturesque of the five.

Lunch is at leisure while your guide will drive to meet pick you up, one can enjoy fresh fish and possibly "trofie al pesto alla genovese" that in rality is a recepie originary of Cinque Terre!.

Driving out of this area is a fantastic moment as the road is one of the most breathtaking and scenic in Italy especially when we will reach Corniglia (3rd town) the only one of the five that is not directly on the water, this is the most ancient and most quaint.

On the way back coasting along mountains and cutting through the terraces will give you unforgettable memories.

Routes and Logistig

Reaching Cinque Terre from Florence takes about 2 hrs. We will drive west towards the coastline passing along the cities of Prato, Pistoia, Lucca, Massa and Carrara that will give many opportunities to get briefed about Tuscany at large and kill the time necessary to reach our destinantion. Ideally we will park the vehicle in Riomaggiore, from the parking to the heart of the town it's a 10 minutes walk downhill. From the marina we will have to walk back up the equivalent of about 50 steps to reach the walk of love, the trail itself is about 800 meters long (1/2 a mile) it's wide, has a handrail and it is 100% safe. There is an ammission fee of Euro 5 per person to be paid by clients. The Via dell'Amore ends at the train station of Manarola those that got tired of walking, can wait for the train there to continue on to Vernazza. In order to take the ferry there is another 5 minutes walking time well worth it, since riding on the train offers very little views, as it's primarily in tunnels, while the ferry ride is very scenic. Whether using the ferry or the train the guide will normally let clients get from this point by themselves, explaining clients hot to meet him again and will get back to Riomaggiore to take the vehicle and drive to Vernazza to pick up the clients. In the meanwhile clients can enjoy some time at leisure and lunch, after meeting the guide we will drive to Corniglia where we wil spend about 20 minutes. At this the drive is possibly the most beautiful moment of the day since we will reach the high part of the montains that form Cinque Terre, the road is very winding and at every turn the scenery changes, we will be immersed in the vineyards of the terraces and it will feel like being on the "roof of the world" Driving out of Cinque Terre from Corniglia takes about 45' at that point we will be in La Spezia from where we will retunr to the ship.
